Finally I finished this painting. Started as an angel, then about war with blood on the ground. The war in Ukraine impacted me.
After two years I suddenly "saw" the final painting. I was so devistated about war in Gaza and Ukraine and everywhere in the world. I was thinking about all the people loosing their homes and lives from all these boms and rockets. I started to paint the houses on fire and then so many houses burned down in Los Angeles. The woman is as in the first painting carrying aid to make the suffer able to carry. How can people be so mean to others? All is better if we live in peace seen in the necklace.
It feels good that under this all is an angel with big white wings.

Women of the history of Gouda

I painted these historical women for an exhibition to celebrate Gouda city rights of 750 years.
On 19 July 1272, Gouda received city rights from Count Floris V of Holland,
which is celebrated extensively from April to September 2022.
Therefore, I painted all these women in red and white as the flag of city of Gouda
These women did not exist in the history. It has been written a little about them and I found some paintings of Jacoba of Bavaria,
two prints of Anna Barbara van Meerten-Schilperoort and one photo of Jacobina Nicolina van Dantzig-Melles.
I have been searching for clothes from the time they were living and for places and buildings
they belonged to make these women visible for us and what kind of important work or persons they were.
